Compound / Boundary Wall Calculator
Estimate bricks, cement, sand and cost for a compound wall around your plot from the plot size and wall height.
Inputs
Formula
- Perimeter = 2 × (length + width) − gate width
- Wall area = perimeter × height
- Bricks ≈ 500 per m³ of 9" wall (55 per sq ft of 9" wall)
A compound wall is priced by its face area. Take the plot perimeter, subtract the gate, multiply by the height. A 9-inch brick wall needs about 55 bricks per square foot of face area (half that for a 4.5-inch wall), plus mortar and a plinth footing which is included in the rate.
Step-by-step calculation
- 1
Perimeter
2 × (L + W) − gate
188 ft
- 2
Wall area
perimeter × height
1,128 sq ft
- 3
Bricks
area × 55
62,040 nos
Worked example
- 1A 60 × 40 ft plot has a 200 ft perimeter; minus a 12 ft gate = 188 ft.
- 2At 6 ft high the wall face is 1,128 sq ft.
- 3A 9" wall needs about 12,400 bricks and costs 1,128 × ₹180 ≈ ₹2,03,000.
Tips
- Add piers every 3 m for a 4.5-inch wall — it will not stand wind loads otherwise.
- Include a damp-proof course at plinth level to stop rising damp staining the wall.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a compound wall cost per foot?
Typically ₹900–₹1,300 per running foot for a 6 ft high 9-inch wall including plaster and painting.
Which thickness should I choose?
9 inches for walls above 5 ft or on a road frontage; 4.5 inches with piers is acceptable for low internal partitions.
Are foundations included?
The per-sq-ft rate normally covers a nominal footing. Deep or reinforced footings on soft soil cost extra.
