What is built-up area?

Built-up area is the constructed floor area of a floor, generally the carpet area plus internal and external wall thickness, subject to the measurement convention used on your project. Carpet area is the usable floor inside the walls; super built-up area adds a share of common areas such as staircases and lobbies and is a sales term rather than a construction one. Use whichever definition your contractor prices against — the rate and the area must come from the same convention.

Number of floors — avoid double counting
