Flooring Calculator
Work out the flooring area and material cost for a room or a whole house, in square feet and square metres.
Inputs
Formula
- Area = length × width × rooms
- Order area = area × (1 + wastage)
- Cost = order area × material rate + area × labour rate
Flooring is priced per square foot for both material and labour. Measure each room, add them up, then add wastage for cuts. Labour is charged on the actual laid area, not on the wastage, which is why the two are calculated separately here.
Step-by-step calculation
- 1
Area
L × W × rooms
120 sq ft
- 2
With wastage
× 1.08
129.6 sq ft
- 3
Cost
material + labour
₹12,672
Worked example
- 1Three bedrooms of 12 ft × 10 ft = 360 sq ft.
- 2With 8% wastage you buy 389 sq ft of material.
- 3At ₹70 material + ₹30 labour → 389 × 70 + 360 × 30 = ₹38,030.
Tips
- Measure each room separately; adding rough totals usually under-estimates by 5%.
- Check the skirting separately — it is charged per running foot, not per square foot.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert square feet to square metres?
Divide by 10.764. So 1,000 sq ft is 92.9 m².
Is wastage really needed?
Yes — cuts at walls and doorways typically waste 5–10% of the material.
Does this include skirting?
No. Skirting is measured along the room perimeter; the perimeter is shown in the results so you can price it.
